Welcome to Malaysia

One Program, Two Countries, Nine States, One-Hundred ETAs, Thousands of Students, Millions of Stories.

Welcome to the Fulbright Malaysia English Teaching Assistant Blog! Here you can dive into the stories and anecdotes of various Americans who have lived and helped teach English throughout the country during their 10 month grant period. Learning how to adapt to a culture on the other side of the world is not an easy task, and being an ETA comes with its fair share of difficulties, but through the ups and downs, ETAs have come away with opened minds, lifelong friendships, and quite a few stories to tell.

Head to the blog section to view our most recent posts from 2019 ETAs living in Malaysia now, or scroll through the archives and see the stories of ETAs from cohorts past.

Words of Wisdom

“The essence of intercultural education is the acquisition of empathy–the ability to see the world as others see it, and to allow for the possibility that others may see something we have failed to see, or may see it more accurately. The simple purpose of the exchange program…is to erode the culturally rooted mistrust that sets nations against one another. The exchange program is not a panacea but an avenue of hope…”

– Senator J. William Fulbright
